4-lane road mooted

Correspondent

Kakinada: The 61.6-km canal road from Samalkot to Dowlesweram via Dwarapudi has been proposed to be converted into a four-lane to cope with the increased vehicular traffic, according to Murthy, executive engineer, R& B. The road in Kakinada upto Ambedkar statue was already converted into a four-lane recently and it would be further improved upto Samalkot connecting the Dowlesweram road.

Mr. Murthy said the proposed road project was now entrusted for technical feasibility survey to consultant LBI. Soon after the feasibility survey report was received, he said, the other formalities, including administrative and technical sanctions, would be completed.

Though detailed estimates would be prepared at a later stage, the road cost might go up four times at the present schedule of rates. Since the canal came in the way of road widening from Kakinada to Samalkot, he said, construction of retaining wall was also required.

Mr. Murthy said they had proposed laying of a mini-bypass road connecting the Medaline area, which is chosen for housing purpose by the Government.
