Danish, Farheen take honours; Chandigarh and Delhi win team titles

FARIDABAD: Danish of Delhi and Farheen of Chandigarh won the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively, beating Tamil Nadu players in the finals in straight games, in the 35th National sub-junior carrom championship here.

The results: Sub-junior boys: Final: Danish (Dli) bt K. Tamilselvan (TN) 25-8, 25-12; Third place: Umar Tanveer (U.P.) bt Raja Hussain (Asm) 25-24, 25-14.

Sub-junior girls: Final: Farheen (Chd) bt M. Kanakadara (TN) 25-15, 25-14; Third place: Samama Iqbal (U.P.) bt P. Jayashree (TN) 25-9, 25-1.

Team: Sub-junior boys: Final: Delhi bt Uttar Pradesh 2-1 (Danish bt Umar Tanveer 23-25, 25-23, 25-5; Salman bt Mohammed Sharukh 25-15, 25-7; Tayyab/ Yasser lost to Mohammed Amir/ Mohammed Saif Ansa ri 15-25, 0-25). Third place: Assam bt Hyderabad 2-1 (Abhinav Dutta bt Snehit Raj 25-5, 25-0; Raja Hussain lost to K. Srinivas 13-25, 14-25; Rajeev Ahmed/ J.K. Dutta bt U. Rajshekar/ U. Naresh 25-12, 25-7).

Sub-junior girls: Final: Chandigarh bt Uttar Pradesh 2-1 (Farheen bt Samama Iqbal 25-24, 24-25, 25-14; Gulshan bt Deepmala Jaiswal 25-17, 13-25, 25-22; Tuba/ Anjali Taneja lost to Shreya Srivastava/ Ekta Tripathi 4-2 5, 12-25). Third place: Tamil Nadu bt Maharashtra 3-0 (P. Jayashree bt Shweta Nevgi 25-0, 25-20; M. Kanakadara bt Maitreyee Gopte 25-21, 25-9; A. Beneeta Gladys/ Atulya bt Vrushali Patil/ Pranali Gamre 25-17, 12-25, 25-5).
