NAGAPATTINAM: The Adi Dravidar welfare middle school at Vettiakadu village near Vedaranyam in the district was upgraded into a high school on Saturday at a function at Vettiakadu. A.K.S.Vijayan, MP, Nagapattinam, presided over the function. Tenkasi S. Jawahar, Collector, who inaugurated the upgraded school, said that the school was started in June 1975 and was upgraded into a middle school in June 1998 before being upgraded into a high school. He said that the Tamil Nadu Government had issued orders recently upgrading three Adi Dravidar welfare middle schools, including this school, into high schools in the State. He pointed out that the Government had allocated Rs.22 lakh for construction of additional classrooms, laboratory facilities for the school and the work would be carried out by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing Development Corporation (TAHDCO). The Collector said that the Adi Dravidar welfare schools in Nagapattinam district had achieved 82 per cent pass in the SSLC and 73 per cent in Plus Two public examinations held in March this year. He appealed to the teachers to work hard and take steps to provide good education to the students to achieve hundred per cent pass in public examinations.
