Document management outsourcing, the Xerox way

Shanthi Kannan

‘Documents consume 50 per cent of the IT budgets’

To increase headcount and client base

Hyderabad, Chennai on company’s radar

CHENNAI: With an eye on garnering more share in the growing document management outsourcing opportunity, Xerox India is planning to increase the headcount and client base for its Xerox Global Services (XGS) division by targeting six verticals, according to Ravi Venkatraman, Director of XGS.

Mr. Venkatraman said Xerox Global Services had at present a team of 600 people and 70 client base in selected domestic enterprises across verticals such as telecom, BFSI (banking and financial services industry), pharma, ITeS (IT-enabled services) and manufacturing. In addition, XGS had 20 global accounts.

Nearly one-third of Xerox Corporation’s revenue (global) came from the services business and India’s contribution was in line with the same.

He said the company proposed to double the headcount in the next one to two years and also increase the client base by 50 per cent by the year-end. He said XGS would also build a team of six BFSI and telecom specialists to further grow the market. Xerox Global Services’ clients include companies such as Nokia, Microsoft, Boeing and HSBC.

On the document management outsourcing opportunity, Mr. Venkatraman told The Hindu that documents consumed 50 per cent of the IT budgets and this represented an enormous opportunity for Xerox Global Services. On the recent launch of Xerox DocuShare 5.0, electronic content management software targeted at medium and large enterprises, he said the programme was part of the Xerox global services division that provided consulting and outsourcing services to enterprises of any size.

The software offered document management and image capture capabilities that increase personal productivity and improve operational efficiency of organisations.

Xerox offered this software in two versions: Xerox DocuShare 5.0 (standard version) and Xerox DocuShare CPX 5.0 (advanced version).

On the company’s plans to tap the South Indian market, Mr. Venkatraman said it would approach the ITeS and manufacturing verticals in Hyderabad and Chennai.

He said it would roll out an educational outreach campaign to increase awareness about the benefits of document management outsourcing and collaborate with 40 chief financial officers of large enterprises in South India by the end of 2007.
