BANGALORE: The Government has finalised the location, population and extent of the proposed 145 wards under the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits. According to the draft copy, which is yet to be notified by the Government, the jurisdiction of BBMP will be spread across an area of 709.53 sq.km, which is 31.47 sq.km. more than what the committee had proposed. The expanded city will have a total population of 58,40,155. This includes the Scheduled Caste population of 6,81,521 and Scheduled Tribe population of 70,071, official sources told The Hindu on Saturday. While the ward-wise population ranges between 24,000 and 49,000, the size of each of the 145 wards will be in the range of 16 sq.km. to 24 sq.km. With this, the process of holding elections to the maiden BBMP Council has gained momentum. Sources said the civic polls were likely to be held by December.
