Staff Reporter

NAMAKKAL: Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Minister A. Tamilarasi has urged the teachers to initiate concerted efforts to improve the education standards in the schools run by the ministry.

She was speaking at a review meeting attended by the headmasters/headmistresses of various Adi dravidar and tribal welfare schools in Salem and Namakkal districts here on Saturday. The minister pointed out that the quality of education in a few schools remained poor for long. Teachers should work with commitment and dedication to produce better results, she stressed.

She asked teachers to ensure that the study environment in the schools was conducive for the students. Special attention should be given to slow learners. The minister also urged the heads of schools to make efforts to improve the performance of students in SSLC and higher secondary examinations. She appreciated the teachers of Kalangani Adi Dravidar and tribal welfare school, which recorded 99 per cent pass in Plus II examinations in the last academic year.

The Government allotted Rs. 651 crore for the welfare of Adi Dravidar and tribal people. The department was spending 77 percent of the funds for education, she said.

Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy, Tribal Welfare Commissioner K.M. Subramanian and District Revenue officer G. Govindaraj were present.

Earlier, participating in another function at Sengarai Edapuli Nadu in Kolli Hills, the minister said that the government had planned to construct buildings for 25 Adi dravidar and tribal welfare hostels this financial year. Funds were also allotted for the construction of residential quarters for the teachers.
