‘Treason charge’ against Narayana flayed

CPI faults Government action, reiterates to continue land struggle

Over 8,000 Left parties’ leaders booked for participating in the land struggle

Debate in both houses of Parliament sought on SEZ issue

HYDERABAD:The Communist Party of India National Secretariat member Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy has faulted the Government for filing treason charges against the party’s State Secretary K. Narayana on the grounds that he had allegedly assaulted a Government servant.

Questioning the Government’s motive in filing treason charges against the CPI leader, Mr. Sudhakar Reddy at a press conference here on Sunday said the Left parties would not be deterred by such harsh action. “There is no meaning in registering treason charges when the CPI leaders are fighting for the cause of the people and demanding lands,” he added.

Time-frame

Stating that the CPI would not stop the land struggle till the Government lands were allotted to the poor, Mr. Sudhakar Reddy wanted the Government to spell out a fixed time-frame for the implementation of Koneru Ranga Rao Committee Report.

He said that over 8,000 Left parties’ leaders were booked under bailable and non-bailable sections for participating in the land struggle. Mr. Sudhakar Reddy said the Parliamentary Committee on Commerce submitted its report on Special Economic Zones to the Rajya Sabha Chairman B.S.Shekawat.

He wanted the report to be discussed in both the Houses. He said till a debate was held in the Parliament, the Centre should not sanction new SEZ’s. It should also stay the sanctions accorded to SEZs earlier.
