8-year-old boy trampled by elephant
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: An eight-year-old boy died after he was trampled by a temple elephant in Yediyur in Kunigal taluk of Tumkur district on Sunday morning.
According to the police, the victim, Sanjay, a resident of Arkalagud, had come with his family members to Siddalingeshwara Swamy temple on Saturday. Sanjay and his brother, Sachin, were playing and they went to feed the temple elephant with some bananas.
The elephant dragged Sanjay with its trunk and threw him to the ground. It later trampled him to death.
In a complaint to Amruthur police station, Sanjay’s father, Manjunath, alleged that his son’s death was because of the negligence of the temple authorities. He said the mahout of elephant was not to be seen at the time of incident.
