Introduce medical insurance in every hospital: Minister

‘KMCH will provide free treatment for the poor’

ERODE: Medical expenses are much lower in India than in developed countries, said Union Minister of State for Textiles E.V.K.S. Elangovan at the inaugural function of KMCH Speciality Hospital in Erode on Sunday.

The Minister stressed the importance of introducing medical insurance in every hospital. He appreciated the performance of the KMCH at Coimbatore and Perundurai.

Medical tourism has great scope in India. “Many foreigners visit India for quality medical care.” He urged the doctors, who are working in foreign countries, to visit India at least once in 10 years and conduct awareness camps and provide free medical treatments to the poor patients.

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan said that incidence of heart diseases and other ailments were on the rise due to erratic food habits and contamination of water. She asked people to take nutritious food and to avoid junk food. Minister of Rural Industries Pongalure N. Palanisamy said that Tamil Nadu Government had granted huge fund for the healthcare. The Government was taking steps to start medical colleges in every district. He wanted the KMCH management to start a medical college in Erode district.

Tamil Nadu Handloom Minister N.K.K.P. Raja said quality medical care had been given to the public in Government hospitals. However, some specialised treatments were not available at Government hospitals for which people were approaching private hospitals.

Highways and Ports Minister M.P. Saminathan urged the KMCH to create awareness among the rural people about healthcare and provide treatment at an affordable rate. Former minister N.K.K. Periyasamy lauded the performances of KMCH.

Chairman of KMCH, Dr. Nalla. G. Palaniswami, said the hospital would provide free treatment for the poor. Erode branch of the hospital got specialist doctors for the treatments of the diseases of heart, lung and kidney, he said.
