dated July 9, 1957: Court vacation

The Government of India intends to shorten the present long vacation of the Supreme Court and the High Courts as a step to speed up the disposal of cases. It is proposed that instead of the present three months’ vacation, the Supreme Court should have a nine-week vacation, and the High Courts a six-week vacation instead of the present ten weeks. A provision to this effect is to be made in the proposed Bills dealing with the service conditions of Judges to be brought before the ensuing session of Parliament.
