dated July 9, 1957: Income-tax collections

The net collections of income-tax during 1956-57 exceeded the budget estimates for the year by Rs.6.1 crores, according to an official release. The actual net collections for the year came to Rs.195.7 crores as against the budget estimates of Rs.189.6 crores. Of the collections, about Rs.60 crores would represent the share payable to the States and the balance of Rs.135.7 crores would be retained by the Centre.
