West Indies clinches series

Ted Corbett

NOTTINGHAM: Kevin Pietersen, who cemented his place with England during the Ashes year of 2005 by taking three sensational catches in a Twenty20 international, changed the course of the third one-dayer against West Indies at Trent Bridge with a beautifully-judged running catch to dismiss the in-form Shivnarine Cahnderpaul.

Sadly, that was the end of his search for glory. West Indies recovered to make 289, Pietersen went for a second ball nought and the Windies won by 93 runs to capture the NatWest series 2-1.

It thoroughly deserved it too after a much more energetic showing compared with its Test debacle.

The difference in the West Indies fielding was astonishing and made a big contribution to its surprise win.
