Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A seven-year-old boy walking down the road in Royapuram died when a 28-year-old man, who allegedly jumped from the third floor of a residential building, fell on him on Saturday. While the man died on the spot, the boy was declared brought dead at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital.

Police said Jayakanthan (28) of Nedunchezhian Nagar in Tondiarpet was unemployed. He went to a relative’s house on Ibrahim Street in Royapuram and allegedly jumped from the third floor of the building.

According to eye-witness accounts, Jayakanthan fell on the boy, Ali, of Velayutham Street, who was on his way to attend a tuition class.

Preliminary inquiries revealed the man was ill, an officer said. The reasons for the death are being probed. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the North Beach police have registered a case.
