Port board gives nod for establishing crane tracks

Tuticorin: The first meeting of the newly constituted Board of Trustees of Tuticorin Port Trust was held here recently.
Official sources said that the board had cleared the proposals for establishment of crane tracks at V O C Wharf, high mast lights at Fishing Harbour, incentive scheme for attracting higher volume of traffic through port during the current fiscal and construction of North Cargo Berth-II at a cost of Rs 35 crores.
Interest rate
The Board had given approval to enhance general provident fund interest rates to 12 per cent and decided to distribute mementoes to all employees of the port in commemoration of 33rd anniversary of Tuticorin port becoming a major port.
Sources said that the board had given in-principle approval to the merger of Cargo Handling Labour Pool at the port with the Tuticorin Port Trust.
