Has sanctioned several projects to the district under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund, says official
NAGAPATTINAM: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is achieving its mission of promoting sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural development through effective credit support, related services, institution building and other innovative initiatives in the district consecutively in the last 11 years, said District Development Manager, NABARD, K. Venugopal, here on Sunday.
Mr. Venugopal told that the NABARD would celebrate its silver jubilee on July 12 throughout the country and pointed out that the bank in the district had pursued its objectives by preparing the potential linked credit plan for the district every year, an important resource document for successful launching of the new credit planning process at the district level.
He pointed out that the NABARD had sanctioned several projects to the district under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for a total outlay of Rs.109.66 crore, including RIDF assistance of Rs.95.38 crore.
The projects included improvement of 137 village roads and strengthening an widening of existing roads with RIDF loan assistance of Rs.45.19 crore.
Besides, construction of 55 bridges were taken up for a stretch of 1,606 metres at a cost of Rs.43.89 crore with Rs.39.05 crore assistance from RIDF and several irrigation, power, drinking water, health and veterinary projects were also taken up, he said.
Mr. Venugopal pointed out that the NABARD had extended assistance to a number of non-governmental organisations for conducting various types of training programmes to the economically weaker sections and supporting orientation programmes for new self help group members.
Besides, the NABARD has helped banks for the formation of 50 Farmers Clubs in the district.
