Gowjith, Satish, Anirudha hit hundreds

Chennai: Gowjith Subash, S. Anirudha and C.P. Satish notched up centuries, here, on Sunday, on the opening day of the TNCA first division cricket league.

Holder Vijay laboured to 206 for six against IOB at the SRMC ground. Opener N. Einstein made 52 (137b, 5x4), while the experienced S. Sharath contributed 45. Off-spinner J. Joel Joseph picked up three wickets.

Timely knock

A valuable unbeaten 107 (139b, 19x4) from No. 6 Gowjith enabled Globe Trotters recover to 211 all out against Jolly Rovers at the IIT-Chemplast ground.

For Rovers, left-arm paceman R. Sudeesh and off-spinner R. Ashwin claimed three wickets each. The host was 103 for two in reply after openers M. Vijay (42) and R. Ramkumar (47) put on 89 runs.

Opener Anirudha’s 111 (146b, 18x4, 2x6) was the highlight in Aruna’s 341 for four against India Pistons at the CPT-IP ground. Anirudha and Noor-ul-Riaz (61, 125b, 10x4) gathered 155 runs in 215 balls for the first wicket.

Then, C. Hemant Kumar (61 batting, 125b, 8x4) and S.R. Ganesh Kumar (45 batting) raised 98 unbeaten runs for the fifth wicket in 160 balls.

Satish’s 133 (153b, 18x4, 1x7) and his 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket in 22 overs with S. Dinesh Kumar (39) propelled Indian Bank to a respectable 337 for seven wickets at close against Grand Slam at the ICL-Guru Nanak ground.

Srinivasan excels

Skipper K. Srinivasan’s unbeaten 73 (132b, 12x4, 1x6) helped Youngsters reach 255 for seven against Parry’s at the Viveka ground. Srinivasan and K. Anand (31) added 61 for the seventh wicket in 24.5 overs. N. Raghavendran scalped three.

Crucial efforts from C.T. Rama Rao (66, 122b, 11x4) and P. Vijay Rahul (70 batting, 237b, 3x4, 1x6) —the two put together 109 for the second wicket in 38.4 overs — took Eagle to 256 for five wickets against Alwarpet at the MAC ground.

At SRMC: Vijay 206 for six in 91 overs (N. Einstein 52, S. Sharath 45) vs. IOB.

At IIT-Chemplast: Globe Trotters 211 in 60.3 overs (Gowjith Subash 107 not out) vs. Jolly Rovers 103 for two in 29 overs (M. Vijay 42, R. Ramkumar 47).

At MAC: Eagle 256 for five in 92 overs (C.T. Rama Rao 66, P. Vijay Rahul 70 batting) vs. Alwarpet.

At CPT-IP: Aruna 341 for four in 90 overs (Noor-ul-Riaz 61, S. Anirudha 111, P. Shijit Chandran 41, C. Hemant Kumar 61 batting, S.R. Ganesh Kumar 45 batting) vs. India Pistions.

At Viveka: Youngsters 255 for seven in 99 overs (K. Srinivasan 73 not out) vs. Parry’s.

At ICL-Guru Nanak: Indian Bank 337 for seven in 90 overs (C.P. Satish 133) vs. Grand Slam.
