Do justice to news, journalists told
Staff Reporter
MALAPPURAM: Poet Alankode Leelakrishnan exhorted journalists to show commitment to their work and to do justice to news reporting despite the colour and group of the management. Delivering the Victor George Memorial Speech at Press Club here on Monday, Mr. Leelakrishnan said that social commitment should be the guiding principle for journalists.
He said Victor George, who died in a landslide while photographing nature’s fury, would live through generations as a symbol of
journalistic commitment. According to Mr. Leelakrishnan, it is only through commitment that a photographer can make his or her works talk. “And a good photo always tells an idea that no amount of words can,” he said.
K. Baburaj, coordinating editor of the Malayala Manorama, said that Victor George considered photography as an art and not as an employment. V. Aboobacker, photographer of Mathrubhumi, also spoke.
C.P Saidalavi, Press Club president, chaired the meeting.
