An unexpected pleasure trip for them

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution who visited Mysore on Monday had an unexpected pleasure trip because of the holiday declared following the death of the former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar.

The 27-member committee led by Devendra Prasad Yadav was scheduled to visit the Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) godown at Metagalli on the outskirts of Mysore on Monday as part of their study tour.

Although the members arrived as scheduled, they were unable to go ahead with their visit to the godown, where the authorities had made elaborate arrangements for their reception. A welcome arch complete with festoons and flowers was erected and a stage set up on the premises for the committee members to hold a meeting.

The committee members, who reached the city in the afternoon, checked into a hotel and then proceeded to Brindavan Gardens for a sight-seeing trip.

Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Mahadevappa said that the committee’s visit to the godown had been cancelled on account of the mourning declared by the Government in view of the former Prime Minister’s death.

“Their visit to the FCI godown has been cancelled. They left for Brindavan Gardens. They will stay in Mysore overnight and return to Bangalore on Tuesday. They have no more programmes in Mysore,” Mr. Mahadevappa added.

Splendid sight

The committee members, comprising members of Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha, were accompanied by a team of officials.

They enjoyed their visit to the Brindavan Gardens that offered a splendid sight, with the heavy inflow of water into the KRS reservoir.

The committee is expected to hold State-level meetings in Bangalore on Tuesday and Wednesday.
