Off the ground: Station Commander Brig. V.N. Money putting concrete mix at the ground breaking ceremony for the Married Accommodation Project in Pallavaram on Monday.
CHENNAI: Army personnel deputed to Chennai need not search for family accommodation once the Married Accommodation Project (MAP) in Pallavaram is completed, said Brig. V.N. Money, Station Commander. Talking to presspersons after laying the foundation stone for Phase I of the MAP on Monday, he said the Directorate General of Married Accommodation Project, under the Ministry of Defence, would build 304 dwelling units in Pallavaram, Nandambakkam and Island Grounds. This would be implemented in two phases at a total cost of Rs.34.71 crore. The Hyderabad-based MAYTAS Infra Limited is executing the MAP in Chennai in collaboration with DORSCH Consultants of Mumbai, he said. In the first phase, 124 units would be constructed in Pallavaram within 18 months, ensuring accommodation for all ranks of servicemen. Better facilities
Brig. Money said the MAP at Pallavaram envisages dwelling units better than the accommodation facilities specified in the scales of accommodation for Defence Services 1983 that covers all sections of the army personnel. The building plan includes provision of covered car parking facilities for officers and provision of better civic amenities, he added. In the second phase, the MAP would include additional facilities such as shopping complexes, a play school and a sewage treatment plant. Brig. Money pointed out that the project will enable army personnel to be available on call around the clock.
