Failure to display drivers’ licence would lead to cancellation of licence Drivers would be required to undergo training lessons at the driving schools
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government in coordination with the police will launch a drive soon to discipline Blueline bus drivers in the Capital. At a meeting held on Monday at the residence of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and attended by Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf and senior officials from various departments it was decided that a massive crackdown on errant drivers involved in accidents be initiated. In case of an accident, the driver’s licence would be cancelled and the bus would be impounded. Failure to display the drivers’ licence and photograph in the bus would also result in cancellation of the licence. Blueline bus drivers would be required to undergo training lessons at the driving schools in Loni and Sarai Kale Khan. The meeting also decided that instead of annual check-up, Blueline buses now would require a fitness-certificate every four to six months. In an attempt to make the roads safe for pedestrians, the Government has decided to install pedestrian-operated traffic signals at 48 new points across the Capital. Meanwhile, the State Transport Department will issue an expression of interest for procuring 1,000 buses soon .
