TIRUCHI: The question of demolition of houses for expansion of Tiruchi airport does not arise since no land survey had been undertaken as yet, Collector Ashish Vacchani said during an informal chat with mediapersons on Monday. Allaying fears raised in certain quarters on the issue, he said that the survey would form the basis for the expansion project and that a decision would be taken only after taking the public into confidence. The Airports Authority of India had approached the district administration for acquisition of land for expansion. In the wake of representations made by farmers’ organisations to the district administration, the Airport authorities here have been advised against considering the idea of changing the course of Uyyakondan Channel, the Collector said. The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) has made a representation for starting ground-levelling works in the 135-acre area at Navalpattu establishing the IT Park. Development works
On the development works in rural areas, the Collector said that the projects undertaken under Indira Awaz Yojana, ‘Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam,’ SGRY, and SGRY special works on flood prevention measures for 2006-07 had been completed. Regarding ration cards, he said that out of the 25,000 outstanding applications, the process of computerising the data of 3,500 card holders has been completed so far. The process was being monitored, he said.
