Boy asphyxiated in leach pit

MANGALORE: A 12-year-old boy playing with a friend on a leach pit near his house adjacent to the KSRTC bus depot at Kuntinaka here died of asphyxiation when the slab covering the pit broke. The boy fell into the pit and died on the way to hospital. The incident occurred on Monday evening.The victim has been identified as Mohan, an eighth standard student. Although, he was rushed to the nearby hospital, doctors declared him brought dead. A case has been registered at Urwa police station.

Detained

Sleuths of District Crime Intelligence Bureau led by Police Inspector A.D. Nagaraj have arrested Honappa (37), resident of Haveri, on charges of possessing five-kilograms of ganja at Pandeshwar under Mangalore South (Pandeshwar) police station limits on Monday. The value of the seized narcotic is Rs. 30,000. Police are on the lookout for Lingappa, also of Haveri, another accused in the case.
