Mining stopped near Uchangidurga temple

DAVANGERE: All mining operators have been asked to stop mining near the historical Uchangidurga temple, said M.B. Dyaberi, Deputy Commissioner of Davangere district.
Mr. Dyaberi told The Hindu here on Tuesday that he had instructed Assistant Commissioner of Harpanahalli division K.S. Lathakumari to visit Uchangidurga and verify whether reports that mining had been carried out near the historical
monument.
The Assistant Commissioner who visited the place reported to the Deputy Commissioner stating that she had asked all mining operators to stop mining activities around the temple.
Over 20 contractors were engaged in mining within the radius of 1 km from the monument and all of them had been asked to stop mining, he said.
