Early disbursement will help farmers repay loans A delegation of farmers to meet Chief Minister
GULBARGA: The Gulbarga District Raitha Horata Samiti and the Gulbarga District Sugarcane Growers’ Association on Tuesday demanded the State Government to start the disbursement of compensation to sugarcane growers whose cane remained uncrushed this year as per the survey completed by the district administration. Samiti president Kedarlingaiah Hiremath told presspersons here that although the district administration in its report to the Government had stated that the sugarcane in 15,000 acres remained uncrushed, as per the details available with them the figure was 16,000 acres. He said the district administration had submitted its report to the Government a week ago but the disbursement of compensation had not yet started. Sugarcane farmers suffered serious losses this year with the sugar factories not accepting the cane grown by them in the district. This pushed them in deep financial trouble when banks and other financial agencies asked them to repay the loan. The payment of the compensation immediately would help the farmers to repay their loans and take up land preparation for the next crop, Mr. Hiremath said. Survey of huts
Welcoming the decision of the State Government to include Jewargi taluk in Gulbarga district under the ambitious programme launched by the Government for eradicating all huts in the select 10 taluks in different districts in the State, Mr. Hiremath said this would go a long way in helping the poor to get a permanent roof over the head. Mr. Hiremath said a delegation of farmers would be leaving for Bangalore soon to meet Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.
