SALEM: Cooptex Employees Union has urged the State Government to ban the sale of clothes manufactured by the private companies through the Co-optex showrooms. Union members said that the sale of private company clothes in Co-optex outlets would severely affect 500 weavers’ cooperative societies in the State. A large number of weavers would be rendered jobless. They urged the Government to immediately withdraw its order, which permitted the sale. They passed a resolution in this regard at the Union’s State executive committee meeting presided over by its general secretary A. Anthonyraj held here recently. In another resolution, members asked the Government to initiate steps to revise the wages for the Co-optex employees. They also demanded the Government to merge the 50 per cent dearness allowance with the basic pay and pay the 17 per cent dearness allowance arrears to the employees immediately. Demonstration planned
The members had decided to stage State-wide demonstrations in support of their demands on July 16 and observe a fast in Chennai on August 16.
