FOR RIGHTS: Anganwadi workers and assistants observing a token strike at Peazhayapet in Krishnagiri on Tuesday.
Krishnagiri: About 300 Anganvadi workers and helpers under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in Krishnagiri district struck work here on Tuesday demanding the State Government to provide a timescale pay, social security and retirement benefits. According to the District secretary of Tamil Nadu Anganvadi workers and helpers union A. Clara the State Government should create a separate department to implement ICDS schemes. It should also provide Provident Fund, old age pension and other security benefits to anganvadi workers and helpers. Though the Centre had been providing funds at the rate of Rs.1063 for anganvadi workers and Rs.500 for helpers towards monthly wages the State Government had not disbursed the amount. It should immediately disburse the monthly wages including arrears. Government should also provide additional subsidy for LPG and kerosene because of hike in prices of essential commodities.
