Kakinada: The Minister for Medical and health, Family welfare Sambhani Chandrasekhar has said that all the primary health centres in the agency area would soon have own buildings. Addressing the district officials meeting on the precautions to be taken to prevent outbreak of seasonal diseases at the Collectorate here on Tuesday, he said, as against 18 PHCs in the agency 10 were having own buildings and Rs. 3 crores was sanctioned now for the construction of new buildings to the remaining eight PHCs during current year. Another step initiated to improve the medical facilities in the agency area, he said, was opening of a drug store at Rampachodavaram exclusively to supply medicines to the PHCs. Hitherto the medicines required for the agency were being supplied from the central drug stores at the district headquarters. The Minister said that with the new facility, the agency PHCs would be provided Rs.55 lakh worth medicines yearly. He has asked the officials to concentrate on the water born diseases such as gastro-enteritis, diarrhoea by ensuring supply of protected water. Doctors’ shortage
On the doctors’ shortage, he said, the problem would be solved by fresh recruitment of doctors, staff nurses and also the para medical staff. He said already GO was issued for recruitment of 969 doctors of whom 154 are exclusively for agency areas providing them special incentives. Along with doctors 750 staff nurses would also be recruited within a month. The Minister said that 208 lab technicians and 379 para medical staff were also being recruited. In addition another 2,469 auxiliary nursing midwives are also being recruited and necessary orders were issued. He said plans were underway for recruiting another 3,500 ANMs also to provide additional staff to the PHCs for better medical care. The Minister said that sanitation was improved at a cost of Rs.627 crores sanctioned last year under the national rural health mission (NRHM). . Pilli Subhas Chandra Bose, Minister for Social Welfare has asked the officials to concentrate on drainage problem by taking up desiltation of all the drains so that the mosquito menace and the resultant spread of Malaria and Dengue fever could be arrested. Collector M.Subrahmanyam said Rs.10,000 was sanctioned to each village under the NRHM for desiltation of drains and sanitation. Birthday fete
