DUBAI: Iran has praised India for not succumbing to U.S. pressures. Responding to a question on the suggestion by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that New Delhi quit the Non-Aligned Movement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said: “India’s resistance against the U.S. expansionism and hegemonism has always been laudable.” Washington was engaged in a “useless effort” to weaken international bodies and organisations. “India is one of the NAM founders, which has always had an important role in the movement,” Mr. Hosseini said. Earlier, India took exception to Ms. Rice’s remarks. In New Delhi, the Foreign Office spokesman said the NAM’s “relevance continues in promoting South-South cooperation.”
