Inquiry on into landing mishap

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Air India have launched an inquiry into an incident at the Cochin International Airport Limited on Monday night in which an Air India Express flight skidded off the runway while landing.

Flight IX 454, operating in the Muscat-Thiruvananthapuram-Kochi sector, skidded off the runway while landing amid rain, an airline official said.

Officials of the Quality Control and Air Safety departments of Air India, along with the DGCA, will conduct a detailed probe.

The digital flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder have been taken possession of. “We are taking the incident seriously as we don’t want to make any compromise on safety measures,” he said.

Preliminary investigations showed that the aircraft’s wheels and the anti-skid system were fully functional, as it was relatively new with only two years of operation.
