Internet ‘nikah’ held valid

MUZZAFARNAGAR: A Darul Uloom Deoband seminary has ruled in favour of marriage under the Shariat law through the Internet, after a man asked if such weddings were valid. However, the nikah should be performed in the presence of two witnesses and a ‘Wakil’, who would solemnise the wedding by announcing the acceptance of the bride and the groom, the fatwa department of the seminary said on Tuesday.

The announcement would help the man marry his fiancee in the U.S., sources said. Details of the couple were not immediately disclosed. — PTI
