Kolkata-Dhaka train in four weeks

DHAKA: With the successful trial run of the Kolkata-Dhaka train on Sunday, officials of both countries have agreed to start the regular service within next four weeks.

Senior officials from both sides discussed the matter here in the last two days and decided that the first train from Dhaka on a trial run will leave for Kolkata on July 29.

A.T.K.M. Ismail, Additional Secretary (Railway Div) of the Bangladesh Communications Ministry and A.E. Ahmed, Additional Secretary in the Indian Home Ministry, led their delegations.

The officials also discussed customs and immigration and security issues.

Ahead of Ramadan

Mr. Ismail said Bangladesh wanted to start the service ahead of Ramadan, while the Indian side wanted it earlier.
