ALL READY:Artificial abode for the migratory birds being fabricated for installation at the Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary pond in Guntur.

GUNTUR: Migratory birds at Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary will have two new artificial trees in the pond on which they can perch in addition to the natural trees. With the number of birds landing at this serene bird sanctuary increasing every year, the Department of Forests has got two new large trees fabricated at the site.

Encouraged by the pilot project a year ago, the Conservator of Forests D. Nalani Mohan designed the two artificial trees to be installed in the pond some time next week when the water from Krishna Western Delta canals reaches the tank.

Two small ones with a single tier of perching site was installed in the pond, which the birds made use of by sitting on them after fishing in the pond. “The department proposes to use some natural creepers on the steel mesh in circular shape welded to a central large pole,” Divisional Forest Officer P. Rammohan Rao told The Hindu.

Water from the existing tank would be emptied and the two fabricated steel structures fixed with concrete when water is available for refilling the tank, said Range Officer T. Srinivasa Rao, who had been supervising the entire project. Each tree valued at about Rs. 20,000 could accommodate a large number of birds at different levels on the 20-feet structure.
