Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has ordered the suspension of Inspector-General of Police Tomin J. Thachenkary from service on the basis of a report by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) which accused the officer of amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income. The Chief Minister ordered the suspension on the recommendation of Director-General of Police, VACB, Upendra Verma. The VACB had earlier filed an FIR at the Thrissur Vigilance Court accusing the officer of amassing illegitimate wealth of Rs.94.37 crore during the 2002-06 period. The Vigilance is also investigating Mr. Thachenkary , currently managing director of Kerala Books and Publications Society, on the charge of defrauding the Government of stamp and registration duty by deliberately undervaluing the land that he had purchased.
