NEW DELHI: Two men, including an Uttarakhand police constable, have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on charges of circulating counterfeit currency notes here in the Capital. The police claim to have seized about Rs. 5 lakh in fake notes from them. Acting on a tip-off that a consignment of fake currency notes would change hands at East Vinod Nagar here on Monday, a team led by Inspector Badrish Dutt laid a trap and arrested the two accused, Vivek Chaudary and Kuldeep Grover, both residents of Hardwar in Uttarakhand. The notes purportedly seized from them were of Rs. 500 denomination. During interrogation, Vivek purportedly revealed that he was a serving constable with the Uttarakhand police posted in Dehra Dun. He recently met Dawood, a resident of Bhagalpur in Bihar, who supplied counterfeit notes. Vivek allegedly joined hands with Dawood and began circulating the notes in and around Delhi. The police said he had so far brought three to four consignments of fake notes from Bhagalpur. Efforts are on to track down others involved in the racket.
