VISAKHAPATNAM: The first airbus operation from the city was launched on Tuesday by the country’s fastest growing and largest low-cost airliner Air Deccan. Air Deccan, which first launched its operations to the city in April 2004, launched its new acquisition 20th brand new Airbus A-320, taking its total fleet to 44, in Visakhapatnam-Kolkata sector. The airbus with a capacity of 180-seats will have daily service. “After the modernisation and inauguration of extended runway, the first airbus successfully landed and took off. It’s a moment of pride for all those trying to improve air connectivity to the city,” Airport Control Manager C. Pattabhi said. Efforts are also on to make the airport operations 24x7 once Navy gets ready to spare its manpower for facilitating night-landing facility. Though the necessary infrastructure is put in place, night landing is yet to be introduced. Indian and King Fisher are also gearing up to introduce airbus service from the city to Hyderabad, Bangalore and other destinations shortly. Airport officials are also hopeful that some international airliners will also have connectivity with the city. An Air Deccan spokesman said that they were operating 71 flights daily in the State.
