Personnel to be specially recruited, trained They will be given various benefits
Bangalore: The State Government is planning to set up a full-fledged special anti-terrorist police wing on the lines of some of the special squads functioning under the jurisdiction of the Union Government. Minister for Home M.P. Prakash, who was briefed on Tuesday by top brass of the State police on the recent terrorist-linked activities in Bangalore and some other pockets in the State, said a high-level meeting to be held on Wednesday would clear all proposals put forward by the police to curb terrorists activities in the State. Apart from two special squads of anti-terrorist police personnel for the entire State, a special squad of 150 personnel would be set up for Bangalore. The personnel, who would be specially recruited for the purpose, would be provided state-of-the-art training. Helpline
Mr. Prakash said a special police helpline would be set up shortly to collect information on the movement of suspicious persons, particularly foreigners. It would be a Statewide helpline, and the identity of the caller would be kept secret, he said. All police stations in the State have been asked to maintain a close watch on the movements of strangers in their jurisdiction. Earlier, in a reply in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Prakash said a full-fledged anti-terrorist squad to handle terrorists and terrorism-related offences would be set up in Bangalore, similar to the one functioning in Mumbai. Mr. Prakash said members of the anti-terrorist squad would get 30 per cent more salary than their counterparts in other wings of the Police Department. The education of their children would be taken care off by the Government and security would be provided to their families. He said the alleged involvement of highly educated youths from Bangalore in the Glasgow airport bombing case was alarming.
