Man held for carrying fake passports

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Immigration authorities at the Anna International Airport on Monday night detained Mohammed Abdulla of Adirampatnam on charges of carrying fake passports. According to sources, he was on his way to board a Singapore airlines flight to the U.S. He came to the immigration counter and produced a passport, which was found to be fake.

When officials checked him he was in possession of another passport in his name with someone else’s photograph affixed on it.

The sources said he was planning to exchange the fake passport with another person at the airport lounge.

Following his detention, the other person did not turn up.

In another case on Tuesday, Vinotha Rajan Rajaratnam, a Sri Lankan national who came by Sri Lankan airlines flight, was found carrying a fake French passport. He was detained and deported.

The detained person was also holding a valid Sri Lankan passport, the sources added.
