Kafeel designed aircraft parts

Afshan Yasmeen

BANGALORE: Designing aircraft parts was his passion, and he did it with diligence. But he always kept to himself. This is how Kafeel Ahmed, involved in the London-Glasgow terror plot, was described by his colleagues at the Bangalore office of Infotech Enterprises, the company where he worked from December 2005 to August 2006.

After his M.Phil. from Queens University in Belfast, Kafeel worked as an aeronautical engineer for this Hyderabad-based Indian outsourcing company that designs aircraft parts for industry giants such as Boeing and Airbus.

According to K.S. Susindar, assistant general manager (corporate communications), Kafeel “left the company probably for better options.”

“There was nothing unusual that I can remember about Mr. Kafeel Ahmed. The company had no problem with him and he resigned voluntarily,” Mr. Susindar told The Hindu over the phone from Hyderabad.

“He was a sincere person but always kept to himself. I do not remember having seen him mingle with other employees. As far as I know, he did not have any friends at work.”

Infotech’s other clients include Bombardier, the Canadian maker of corporate jets; Pratt and Whitney, the aircraft engine-maker, and the Home Office of the British Government, which is responsible for domestic security and is leading the investigation into the terror plot.

Apparently, Infotech helped the Home Office build a searchable computer database of criminal activity in Cornwall and Devon counties. It offers outsourced engineering work in industries such as Alstom, the French maker of rail equipment and power systems.
