The Krishna District Chess Association and NTR Stadium (Gudivada) will jointly organise a state open tournament on July 21 and 22 at the NTR Stadium, Gudivada.

The winner will carry home Rs.4,000 and the runner-up will pocket Rs.2,500. Special prizes will be given to talented players in the age group of under-7, 9, 11, 13 and 15.

Meanwhile, the association will organise district selections on July 15 at the NTR Stadium to select the district u-15 boys’ and girls’ teams for the State tournament to be held at Bhimavaram on July 28 and 29.

Guntur’s P. Faizal Khan emerged the champion in the cadet segment of the 35th sub-junior National carrom championship which concluded at Faridabad recently. Faizal defeated S.S. Sai of Hyderabad 25-0, 25-4 in the final.

Vizag’s P. Prasuna finished seventh in the cadet girls’ segment, while Guntur’s N. Rajalakshmi took the ninth place in the sub-junior girls’ category.
