Puducherry: President of the Association of the Battery Dealers D. Mani told presspersons here on Wednesday that the dealers were not against VAT as such, but the slab under which batteries were brought had caused some concern. The VAT for batteries had now been 12.5 per cent, and as the dealers were procuring them from Tamil Nadu, they had to pay additional 3 per cent under Central Sales Tax. The dealers urged the administration to bring down the VAT from 12.5 per cent to 4 per cent so that the VAT on a battery would be 7 per cent. Mr. Mani said that a detailed representation had already been made to the Chief Minister. — Special Correspondent
