Katta, Ugrappa lock horns

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The Legislative Council on Wednesday witnessed a verbal duel between Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and Congress member V.S. Ugrappa over the issue of special economic zones (SEZ).

The trouble started when Mr. Naidu was replying to a query on SEZs during the Question Hour. Mr. Naidu got provoked when Mr. Ugrappa made certain allegations against him. He responded by referring to Mr. Ugrappa in the singular. The House plunged into a pandemonium. However, order was restored by Chairman B.K.Chandrashekar who expunged all the remarks by the Minister as well as the MLC.

‘No forced land acquisition’

Mr. Naidu said the Centre had asked all States not to resort to forced acquisition of land for the projects of private developers. Replying to D.M. Putte Gowda (Congress), the Minister said the Centre had come out with such norms in the SEZ guidelines issued by it on June 15. .
