BERHAMPUR: Officials of the Civil Supplies Department seized six school buses running on kerosene meant for subsidised public distribution on Wednesday morning in the city. These buses were carrying students of Kendriya Vidyalaya’s Ambapua campus. According to school authorities they were using these buses owned by private operators for the transportation of students. The officials led by District Civil Supplies Officer Saroj Kumar Biswal reached the school to seize the buses while they were parked outside the school after bringing the students. Fuel samples were collected from the seized buses to be sent for forensic testing. But the civil supply officials did not want to cause any problem to the students. The owners of these seized buses were called up and the buses were allowed to make return journeys to take back the students after the school was over. Then the buses were again taken over by the Civil Supplies Department. According to Mr Biswal, it is an irony that these buses were using kerosene as fuel inside the city although the district administration is continuing to seize buses and trucks running on kerosene since for the last few months. "It seems these bus operators thought they would not be under scrutiny as they were used by school children".
