Engineering student held on charge of impersonation

Correspondent

CUTTACK: The Cuttack police on Wednesday arrested one engineering student for impersonation. Praveen Naik, a student of Dhenkanal based Synergy Institute of Technology was booked under Section 419 (impersonation) and 420 (cheating) for appearing the BPUT supplementary examination for another student at Ajay Binay Institute of Technology (ABIT) here.

Praveen, a third year BE student, had managed to run away from the ABIT examination hall here on Friday last after writing the ’Organisation Behaviour’ paper for his friend Sagar Panda, also a student of SIT, Dhenkanal.

"Although, Praveen was detected for impersonating last week, he managed to escape before the police arrived on the campus", said examination superintendent of ABIT R K Sahu. Praveen had in fact admitted before the invigilators that he appeared the examination for Sagar as the latter was weak in the paper concerned. Praveen had also indicated that Sagar who is good in ‘Autometa Theory’ paper would write the answers for him in that paper which was scheduled for today, Sahu disclosed. "Since Praveen had cleared the Organization Behaviour paper and Sagar had cleared the Autometa Theory paper but had failed to clear the alternative papers in the half-yearly semester examination of the Varsity in March this year, both had apparently decided to help each other bywriting for the other’s paper in the supplementary examination", Sahu said.

Investigation on

When Praveen arrived here on Wednesday to appear for ‘Autometa Theory’ paper, local Markat Nagar policemen immediately took him into custody, said office superintendent of ABIT Chakradhar Mishra. Investigating police officer P C Routray said Praveen was arrested and investigation is on. Sagar Panda could be made a co-accused in the case, Routray said.
