Posco issue generates heat

BHUBANESWAR: The Assembly witnessed noisy scenes on Wednesday with legislators belonging to different Opposition parties demanding a discussion on the POSCO issue.

Opposition members rushed to the well of the House when Speaker Maheswar Mohanty did not allow discussion on the POSCO issue in the form of an adjournment motion. Initially, Leader of the Opposition J. B. Patnaik pressed for a discussion on the issue. When the Opposition stalled the proceedings during zero hour by raising slogans against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings on two occasions.

Normalcy, however, returned only after the Speaker announced that the issue would be taken up for discussion on Thursday or Friday.
