NEW DELHI: A vigilance team of power distribution company BSES claims to have caught two persons posing as BYPL enforcement officials and operating in East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar and adjoining areas. The BSES authorities received a complaint from a resident of Laxmi Nagar about two men posing as BYPL enforcement officials who visited his premises on the pretext of checking the meter. The two declared that the meter was slow by 80 per cent and told the customer that he was liable to pay a penalty of Rs. 1 lakh. They were, however, quick to add that the matter could be “settled’ and the penalty would be lowered to Rs. 20,000. “This offer made the customer suspicious, but he decided to play along. He asked for some time to arrange for the money. In the meantime, he brought the incident to the notice of the BSES vigilance department. Subsequently a trap was laid by the department with the cooperation of the alert customer to catch the impostors,” a BSES official said. The impostors have been identified as Jeetender and Uday Raj, both residents of Mayur Vihar.
