KSSP organises protest fast

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Activists of the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) staged a fast in front of the Secretariat on Wednesday to protest against the Government move to give recognition to CBSE schools.

Inaugurating the fast, KSSP president T.P. Kunhikannan said the decision of the Government to give recognition to new CBSE schools every year would decimate the public education sector.

Pointing out that the curriculum reform initiatives in Kerala had won laurels even at the national level, Mr. Kunhikannan said there was no justification in the argument that the CBSE curriculum would better serve the cause of ameliorating social backwardness than the State curriculum. He alleged that the previous Government in the State had indiscriminately given recognition to unaided schools. Already there were 692 CBSE schools in the State. In addition to this, there were ICSE schools and international schools working in the State.

The move of the Government to give recognition to the schools with parallel curriculum was unfortunate, Mr. Kunhikannan said.
