NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday continued its attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party for creating a website on United Progressive Alliance-Left Presidential candidate Pratibha Patil. “We have sympathy for the BJP for finally reaching the lowest level possible in public life. We cannot stoop to these standards like inaugurating a website containing unfounded allegations,” Union Minister Renuka Chowdhary, who is part of the media team for Ms. Patil, said. Dig at Shourie
Taking a dig at the former Union Minister, Arun Shourie, for talking of a widow [in his article], she said that in his role as Disinvestment Minister, the BJP leader cost jobs by disposing of profit-making public sector undertakings. Insulting people
The BJP was seeking to insult the intelligence of people by suggesting that Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was contesting as an independent. “The country would not be fooled just as they did not on the ‘India Shining’ campaign in 2004.” Asked about the BJP’s charge that its leaders’ phones were being tapped, the UUnUnion Minister Ms. Chowdhary said: “Why should we tap them. Are they so important? ”
