Sensex dips below 15000

MUMBAI: Infosys Technologies’ muted earnings guidance for the fiscal and weak global markets dragged the market barometer Sensex down by 99 points to close below the 15000-level.

The announcement of encouraging first quarter results by Infosys, however, failed to have any major impact on the market.

The market plunged by about 180 points to the day’s low of 14829.55 after the IT giant revised its guidance downwards in line with the appreciating Indian currency against the U.S. dollar.

The BSE barometer later recovered smartly before closing at 14910.62, a net fall of 99.26 points against Tuesday’s close of 15009.88. — PTI
