Searches conducted in Srinagar
Srinagar: The police on Wednesday cordoned off several areas of the city following intelligence inputs of a possible attempt by militants to carry out grenade attacks, official sources said. Large parts of the city, including Lal Chowk, Budshah Chowk and adjoining areas, were sealed off and people were subjected to frisking, they said.
The sources said the search-cum-frisking operations were carried out following inputs that militants might try to carry out grenade attacks.
However, a senior police official said there was nothing new in surprise frisking operations. Militants had targeted tourists in grenade attacks in the past. — PTI
