NEW DELHI: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has directed that a high-power three-member committee look into the selection of senior residents for the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The Institute had withheld declaration of results of its senior residency selection examination-cum-interview held this past month in the wake of allegations that the administration had discriminated against students from the reserved category. While Institute spokesperson Shakti Kumar Gupta maintained that the results were withheld because the administration needed to seek legal advice on the issue, this latest order received by the Institute on Tuesday directs the AIIMS administration to “hand over all relevant paper on the matter to the committee within two days”. The committee, consisting of Union Health Secretary, Director-General of Health Services and member of the Institute Governing Body, Dr. Shyam Prasad, will now look into the matter. The Sub-Dean, Academics of the Institute, Sunil Chamber said: “The Dean of the Institute has asked senior residents currently working at AIIMS to continue till the new appointments are made.”
